Family: one younger sister, two younger brothers

College: University of Wisconsin - La Crosse Major: Exercise Sports Science - Pre-Physical Therapy Minor: Nutrition

Hobbies/Interests: I enjoy doing anything active with my family and friends - biking, water sports, running, hiking, fishing, hunting, lifting, and playing all sports (especially hockey!) I also LOVE country music and summertime :)

Accomplishments: I haven't had any that stick out but I am going to start competing in triathlons for the first time and I can't wait!

Favorite Trip: This past summer me and my best friend took a road trip to the Upper Peninsula and camped for four days tent style in Lake of the Clouds. Favorite Movie: The Proposal or The Karate Kid

Guilty Pleasure: Anything chocolate!

Words of Wisdom: Commitment. That is probably the hardest detail when it comes to living a healthier lifestyle and it often ends because of the lack of patience. It didn't take 3 weeks to become unhealthy so how can you expect your body to change for the better in that amount of time?! Take time to truly shape yourself into the person you want to be and the results will mean so much more :) If you are tired of starting over, stop giving up!

Sara Deters, registered nurse, joined the RCW Primary Health team in April of 2014.

Sara is very excited and honored to join the RCW team and be part of fulfilling the mission. Sara is committed to the wellness model and has seen first-hand the benefits of prevention. Sara points out that often our health is taken for granted. “We don’t think about it until we become ill. My hope is that we grow the passion, and inspire everyone to put forth effort to make good health a reality. It makes creating the life we imagine- a whole lot easier.” Sara welcomes the opportunity to help others formulate their goals, and lend guidance as to how to accomplish them.

Sara attended Viterbo University and received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She has 3 sons, and held off on receiving her nursing degree until 1997. Since that time, she has been caring for people in Home and Behavioral Health. Sara loves spending time in the country, likes antiquing, rummaging, the Minnesota State Fair, garden parties, cooking/ baking, quilting, growing things, and most of all, people! Her favorite breakfast is steel cut oats with steaming warm blueberries, topped with raw honey and walnuts. Sometimes a twist of lemon!

Aubrey Stetter
Hometown: Holmen Wisconsin

Family: My parents have been married for 34 years and are still living in Holmen. I have a younger brother (20) and sister (17).

Hobbies/Interests: As cheesy as it sounds, I truly enjoy getting a good work-out. Working up a sweat feels super exhilarating and re-charges you for the rest of the day.

Most memorable adventure/trip: I have a few memorable trips... our annual trip up north with my mom’s family, a trip to New York City, visiting Seattle Washington on a work trip, going to Glacier National Park for spring break, visiting Blaine Washington/Vancouver Canada on another spring break trip, Las Vegas with a friend and her husband, road-trip to Naples Florida to visit a friend, and every concert we have gone to at The Gorge (amphitheater) in Washington state.

College Major/Minor: Community Health Education, possibly a Nutrition minor and/or Strength and Conditioning concentration

Accomplishments: I think each day keeping up with school and work, and keeping relationships with family and friends in tact is an ongoing and extremely important accomplishment! I also earned my Zumba certification, which I’m very excited about. Now the next challenge, teaching a class!

Favorite Book: Eat, Pray, Love for bringing out all of life’s daily pleasures and encouraging us all to take the time to enjoy them. My Sister’s Keeper because it pulls on your heart strings. You Are What You Eat for pointing out how much what you put in your mouth can help or hurt your daily and long term health.

Favorite Movie: I have way too many to just pick one… Christmas Vacation, Tommy Boy, Dumb and Dumber, Moulin Rouge, Knocked Up, What About Bob, Sex and the City, What A Wonderful Life, Sand Lot, Kill Bill (I and II), True Romance, Wall-E, Pretty In Pink, The Breakfast Club.

Least favorite physical activity: Honestly, I don’t know how to answer this one. I’m a perfectionist so when I’m not good at something, I get really frustrated and momentarily dislike what I’m doing (currently, this would be snowboarding). However, I usually go back, try again, and get better, which encourages me to keep going!

Guilty pleasure/indulgence: Ice cream, chocolate, pizza…anything un-healthy sounds good all the time, right?

Words of wisdom or encouragement for health seekers: A healthy lifestyle is just like anything new and intimidating. The most important thing is to make it a habit and part of your daily routine. If need be, literally write down all your work-out sessions into your schedule each day/week, whatever is most convenient. Get excited about what you’re doing to help yourself! You cannot control all events in your life but YOU CAN TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR HEALTH AND WELLNESS! Make yourself as healthy as possible now and you will be doing all you can to prevent disease later in life.

How do you plan to integrate your education into your future career: Because I am a Community Health major, the possibilities of my future careers are endless. Although I have not pin-pointed exactly what my dream job is, I am so excited and grateful that I will be getting the chance to educate people on the importance of health.

Favorite Movie: Gladiator

Least favorite physical activity: Swimming

Guilty pleasure/indulgence: Ice cream is my weakness, I can’t say no to the stuff.

Words of wisdom or encouragement for health seekers: Only you can make yourself better. You need to be able to find within yourself that voice that says I want to be healthier. This doesn’t necessarily mean going out and running 5 miles, but it maybe means taking the stairs instead of the elevator or biking to work instead of driving. It all starts with you.

Certified Zumba Instructor

Hobbies/Interests: traveling, culture, camping, hiking, frisbee, tennis -- basically anything that can be categorized as being spontaneous, adventurous and/or outside -- photography and scrapbooking; just to name a few.

Most memorable adventure/trip: I don’t think there is one that comes before the other because they’re all different in their own ways - from Ireland to Argentina to Uruguay to Canada to different parts of Mexico to Hawaii (and several other states in the US) to family camping trips. They all tell a different story and hold different places in my heart.

Favorite Book: The Bible

Favorite Movie: The Guardian

Least favorite physical activity: Running – it drags on and on and on…I can’t seem to keep my mind of how hard I am breathing! However, having a running partner to challenge and push me forward definitely helps (thank you Emily Karl).

Guilty pleasure/indulgence: Sour Patch Kids…and chocolate. The catch: I disliked chocolate all of my life until the summer of 2010.

Words of wisdom or encouragement for health seekers: Everyone has a starting point, so leave the ego at the door and challenge yourself mentally and physically. Ask questions confidently and make it into something you enjoy (it is possible, I promise!).

How do you plan to integrate your education into your future career? As of right now, I'd like to take a holistic approach to maternal and child health. Ideally, I'd like be part of a women's clinic, so I can incorporate all my different interests into one (doula, lactation consultant, yoga instructor, etc). However, being a community health education major, I have a general knowledge and can act as a resource about many different aspects of health (nutrition, sexuality, environmental, drugs, etc), which means the opportunities are endless for my future career in health promotion and disease prevention.

How do you plan to integrate your education into your future career? I am not sure where I want to end up in the fitness field, but know that I have a passion for seeing people come to achieve optimal health physically, mentally, and spiritually.
